Aitchison Martha – UK

I am very happy to have been asked to join you. It is an honour to participate in a Mail Art show
in Athens, the place from where a long time ago Art, Science and Philosophy burst out into the
western world with a force that is still carrying humanity forth.
What more appropriate than for an intrinsically democratic movement like Mail Art than to be
cradled now in the birthplace of democracy? For Mail Art is open to everybody, it embraces all
nationalities and provides a forum, another Greek innovation, where ideas can be freely expressed.
Since 1995 I have been very much involved with the Mail Art community.
My main Mail Art project is the Shopping Trolley Gallery, an art gallery dedicated
to Mail Art shows, mounted on the trolley I use to carry my shopping.
I also curate Mail Art shows in other venues.
Mail Art is any artwork that can be sent by post. Handmade postcards,
photocopies, photos, computer prints, collages, paintings, drawings, constructions,
found objects, anything you wish. Mail Art is whatever you want
to make of it. To join us the only thing you need to do is to answer an invitation
and do some artwork yourself responding to the theme.
Soon after you will receive invitations directly and then you will know you
are part of the Eternal Network of Mail Artists too. See you in my post box!

Honouring the Shadow
The Shadow is a psychological term introduced by the late Swiss psychiatrist Carl
Jung. It is everything in us that is repressed, undeveloped and denied, both dark
and light. The shadow represents all that the conscious person does not wish to
acknowledge within themselves. Jung emphasized the importance of being aware of
shadow material and incorporating it into conscious awareness. Otherwise we
project these attributes onto others.
Honor your shadow by giving it visual form.
All mediums are welcome.
Deadline: December 31 2010.
Artworks will be permanently displayed on my website.
